The New Age has Arrived

At long last, Gravehold has fallen. But New Gravehold has arisen from the ashes. The strongest breach mages have been organized into expedition parties. Many have already set out to find the source of the Nameless and stop their assault once and for all. [previewyoutube=JO8FxCB_1K0;full][/previewyoutube] The New Age is now available as DLC. It more than doubles the content in the core game, and introduces the Expedition system into the Aeon's End universe. After each game in the Expedition campaign, you will receive new treasures and player cards that allow you to become more powerful. However, the nemeses that you will face grow stronger and stronger with each battle. https://store.steampowered.com/app/1736700/Aeons_End__The_New_Age Begin your adventure with up to 4 mages against a terrifyingly familiar foe, and unlock 4 more mages and 3 more nemeses in your quest to protect New Gravehold! From then, you can play randomized Expeditions with all of your content from the core game and other expansions.

Aeon's End: The New Age retails for $14.99 USD, but it is on sale for $12.99 USD for the first week, so make sure to tell your friends! The core game of Aeon's End will also be on sale this week as part of the Remote Play Together Sale. Play through The New Age expedition with a friend using Steam Remote Play Together!
Other changes in version 1.4:

  • Use the new Help & Feedback button from the in-game or main menu to access FAQs and report problems to us directly in-game.
  • The default rules for the Turn Order deck have been updated to reflect The New Age. Previous rules are still available from the New Game screen if you prefer.
  • Fixed a problem interaction between Malastar and Xaxos's charge ability.
  • Woven Sky now properly unleashes.
  • Various other small improvements and fixes have been made.
Version 1.4.1 hotfix: This update fixes a bug that caused all the New Age content to be prematurely unlocked. Now, content will be locked properly and you can unlock it by playing through the narrative expedition, as intended. Version 1.4.2 hotfix: This update fixes a problem with statistics & achievements not being properly tracked for Arachnos.

Aeon's End: The New Age Preview!

Take a look into what the Handelabra Games team has been working on for Aeon's End! The New Age brings all new foes, mages, and more to the digital tabletop.

[ 2021-10-21 17:00:47 CET ] [ Original post ]

The Return of The New Age

When the Kickstarter campaign for The New Age faltered, we were disappointed, because we really wanted to make more content for Aeon's End. It was clear there was interest and demand, even if the campaign didn't work out. So we decided to make it anyway!
Working with Indie Game Studios, we have secured alternative funding for The New Age, and it's well into development. There will be a preview of new mages & player cards on Handelabra Live tonight (Sep 7) at 7 PM Eastern. Follow us on Twitch to get your first look! There will not be another Kickstarter campaign for The New Age, but we do want to open up the opportunity for new beta testers. Becoming a beta team member means you will get access to the private beta of the game & expansion content ahead of any public releases. You will play the game to help us discover bugs, report them, and help us make sure the expansions are as good as they can possibly be. You can test on Steam, iPad, or Android tablets (or all 3, if you have the devices). If you are interested in joining the beta team, 100 membership slots are available on our website, at the same price as the Kickstarter's beta team pledge level. Thanks for your support! We're excited to bring The New Age to digital after all, and hope to add the rest of the wave & more to Aeon's End in the future!

New Player Cards

Nemesis: Horde-Crone

In the ancient time, before our kind, the troggs walked The World that Was. From what the elders remember of the lost tales, there were three great tribes, each with a purpose. The Yud were keepers of life, gifed with the art of creation, molders of flesh. The Orp were being of shadow, masters of ruination and death, the counterweights on the scales of life, against which the Yud were balanced. And the Zom were neither light nor dark, but instead were dreamers with great minds. The world was unforgiving and empty then, but malleable, a great marble to be chiseled and shaped as they saw fit. And though the tribes were each different, they lived in great harmony. The world flourished and faded, developed and dreamed, much the way worlds are supposed to. Eventually the world they wove was complete and no longer needed them, so they journeyed into the black of this very cave, to this very city, to sleep and be forgotten. Now The Crone has stirred the troggs from their slumber. Awakened with new and malicious purpose, they issue from the infinite depths of the cave in their hordes, eager to take back their ancient city and undo their own great feats. And who are we but immigrants here in Gravehold, in this world they made for us? Are we not their children in some measure? Is it not their right to take it all away?

Breach Mages: Nym, Reeve, and Zhana

Nym: "A lot of people are afraid of 'The Nameless,' but not me. They think I am too young to know what fear is, but really, fear is the only thing we younglings know. But I choose not to fear them any more. I won't give them anything other than my fire." Reeve: "Whenever those bells ring I feel my heart swell as I heave my chopper from its sheath. I smell the air burn as the breach opens and I cannot run there fast enough. We all have a purpose, a gift to give. This is mine." Zhana: "My philosophies on The Nameless are even less popular than Xaxos'. Many times I have slept in the crypts for things I have said to others. But many nights I have fought back the dark, side by side with those who have locked the crypt door behind me."

Steam Trading Cards

Aeon's End now has 12 virtual trading cards - one for each Breach Mage and Nemesis in the core game. You earn cards by playing the game on Steam, and can trade them in the Marketplace. Collect them all to discover the available badges, emoticons, and profile backgrounds! Or use Steam Points to get the goodies right away on the Steam Points Shop.
Learn more about how Steam Trading Cards work here. Visit the Aeon's End Steam Points Shop here.

Other new features and fixes

More card sleeves, playmats, and nemesis & mage skins have been added for the core game and expansions. Visit the Customize screen to try them out. When the game is over, it will explain what happened and give you the chance to undo (if possible). Improved the order of playing all gems when you have a Tainted Jade in hand. Fixed a glitch that could occur if you pressed undo while a nemesis card was being played. Various other bug fixes and small improvements.

Version 1.2 with The Nameless DLC and Customization

To defeat the dark, one must first become it. https://store.steampowered.com/app/1321770/Aeons_End__The_Nameless/ The Nameless expansion is now available as DLC. It includes: Blight Lord - nemesis Wayward One - nemesis Malastar - playable mage with unique starter card (Immolate) One gem - Leeching Agate Two relics - Molten Hammer & Temporal Helix Four spells - Blaze, Sage's Brand, Scrying Bolt, & Radiance

New Player Cards

Nemesis: Blight Lord

The Blight Lord was the first of The Nameless to touch The World That Was. With a quick and deliberate hand, the great city of Karek was turned to a mountain of green glass, its many thousands of denizens entombed within. The harbor towns of Mblark were next to fall, the warm waters lapping against the jagged frozen shapes of those caught unaware. Even the very earth below its shadow became glass, left to shatter into crude and useless shapes. The elder of the First Tribe bade his people to pay it tribute, for in his ignorance he considered it a divine messenger from the gods they worshipped then. Of those that knelt before it, none were spared. And thus the Blight Lord was given its name, for the certain ruin of our people followed it like some merciless plague.

Nemesis: Wayward One

This creature is an oddity, even amongst its odd kind, trapped in a place neither here nor there. The scouts first saw it from the west wall, flickering against the vault of the cave. They say it wailed as it fluttered through the citys defenses like a broken ghost. A merchant in the dirt market made the mistake of brushing the wisps of its floating form as she threw up her hands in horror. She began to fade away as soon as the dust of the thing sifted between her fingers. And then it too was gone. Like us, it is lost. Of all The Nameless that have plagued us here in our last sanctum, the Wayward One alone seems almost tormented by the task. The breach mages say they show compassion toward the wretched thing by fighting against it with all their might, for like us, it is seeking an end to its struggle.

Breach Mage Mentor: Malastar

You can always tell which younglings will be mages. Mostly, they are girls, but sometimes a boy-child will carry the spark, though weaker than their sister-kind. Training each of them is my sad calling, for mages come and go like the black days in this place. First, they learn the sister-words, the mages tongue, the language of all things. Next we fashion them a gem, one that is theirs alone, a conduit for their nascent power. After this, Kadir takes them deep within the bowels of the cave, where they must find their way back with only their gem to protect them. Many find their way home, but we have lost many would-be mages in my years. A students last task is to slay a beast, armed again only with their gem and their wits. The child is dropped down a shaft outside Chasmwalk, left alone with whatever miscreation we have snared from the void. Sometimes the creature is wounded, weak, but always they are hungry. A student that navigates this ordeal is named apprentice. After that, one need only survive long enough to earn the rank of mage.

Other new features and fixes

You can now customize your Aeon's End experience with card sleeves, playmats, and nemesis & mage skins! Visit the Customize screen to try it out. Undo now checks more cases for revealing new information. Added four new achievements to unlock. The Four by Four achievement is now awarded properly. Fixed a problem where the game could get stuck if Xae used her charge ability on a spell with Durability. Various other small bug fixes and improvements have been made.

Whats in a Name(less)?

Greetings breach mages! It has been a while since we last checked in with you, but were sure the world is pretty much like it was back in November, right? Several of you have asked about more content for the game, and weve been quiet because we didnt have anything definitive to share - until now. We are pleased to announce that we are beginning work on The Nameless - the first expansion for Aeons End!

The Nameless includes:

Nemesis: Blight Lord The humble Jade is one of your most trusted gems. What happens when a nemesis turns it against you? The terrible Blight Lord seeds your deck with Tainted Jade, which are both blessing and curse. The more tainted your deck becomes, the harder it will be to repel this nemesis.
Nemesis: Wayward One The Wayward One brings the concept of position into Aeons End. This nemesis and its minions move to different positions, and if your spells are not aligned at the right time, they'll be more fizzle than fireball. Your strategic abilities will be put to the test!
Mage: Malastar - Breach Mage Mentor Malastars unique starter is Immolate, which grants charges if you take damage with this spell prepped. And thats good news, because his charge ability requires 6 charges, more than any other breach mage currently in the game. His charge ability is Gift of Aether which not only lets you gain a spell from any pile, but you can also prep it into any mage's open breach! Market Seven new player cards give you more options for the market, including:
  • Leeching Agate (Gem): When you gain this, gain a charge. Gain 2 Aether.
  • Temporal Helix (Relic): Cast any players prepped spell without discarding it
  • Scrying Bolt (Spell): Cast: Deal 5 damage. You may lose 1 charge. If you do, reveal the top three cards of the Nemesis deck. Return them in any order.
We dont have a release timeline to share with you yet, but well post more once were further along in development.

Playing Games While Social Distancing

Aeon's End doesn't yet have built-in online multiplayer, but you can still play it online with friends using third-party tools! For example:
  • Steam Remote Play Together is built in to Steam and lets you share the screen & mouse.
  • Parsec is a game streaming service for playing games together with friends.
  • Discord is not only a great place to chat about our games, but also a way to play together using screen sharing & voice chat. Join our Discord server!
  • Skype, Zoom, Google Hangouts, and many other systems can be used as well. Know about a great service? Mention it below in the comments!

Early Access Update #3: Carapace Queen + Card Library

The final nemesis of the core game has arrived in the third Early Access update. Read on to learn all about the Carapace Queen and more!

Carapace Queen

The Carapace Queen, the Mother-of-Husks, the Swarm Daughter - all these dread names we have chosen in our vain attempts to comprehend this creature. But of all The Nameless, the Queen has brought the most ruin upon Gravehold, for her armies are vast and lethal, more clockwork things than beasts. There is a saying about the husks: To kill one is to breed six...
The Carapace Queen is part of the core game and so is available for all to play starting with this update. Swarms of husks will threaten to overwhelm you and Gravehold before you can stop her!

Card Library

Sometimes you just want to take a minute and look at the cool cards. Now you can with the new Card Library screen. It includes all of the cards in the game - basic nemesis cards, nemeses and their unique cards, mages and their starter cards, and player cards available for the supply. Remember, you can right click any card to view the full size with text and artwork!

Under the Hood

We've updated the underlying version of the Unity game engine to the latest available. That brings many small improvements, but there's a risk of glitches too. Please let us know if you run into any trouble! Notably, on Linux, 32-bit x86 support has been dropped. Only 64-bit CPUs are now supported. On macOS, you may run into an error like: "The application can't be opened" or "Failed to start process for Aeon's End." If you see this, right-click the game in Steam and uninstall it, then reinstall it, and everything should work again. You won't lose any of your settings or saved game doing this.

Other Improvements

This update includes various other bug fixes and improvements. Here's a list of the notable ones: Interactions:
  • Insatiable Avarice now automatically gains a gem if there's only one choice.
Information Display:
  • The main menu now has an information area we can update to let you know about what's new.
Visual Polish:
  • An animation is now shown to make it clear when the nemesis Unleashes.
Bug Fixes:
  • The turn no longer incorrectly automatically ends when you are buying charges with a lot of Aether.
  • Corruption effects are no longer skipped if you undo within the start of your turn.
  • Corruption cards acting at the end of turn are now properly highlighted.

What's Next

The Early Access period is nearly at an end! The last major features we plan to add before retail launch are Steam achievements and statistics. We're also working on more performance improvements and optimizations. Plus, bonus content unlocked by the Kickstarter is on the roadmap to release soon after retail launch on Steam and tablets. Thanks for playing and keep sending in your feedback!

Deck Building With a Twist

Randomized turn order, no shuffling, and multiple win and loss conditions make this a deck building experience like no other!

“This is not the end of the world. That already happened. This is what is left: us, gravehold, and the Nameless. For generations we have taken refuge in an ancient and haunted place. It has taken our mages an aeon to hone their craft, but they are ready... and they are lethal. The breaches, the very conduits through which the Nameless travel, have become our weapon.”
-Yaleesa Rhykk, Gravehold survivor

The situation is bleak. The final city - Gravehold - needs the power of the breach mages to hold back the Nameless. Join the fight, and maybe… just maybe, Gravehold will live to see another dawn.

Aeon’s End is a deck-building game where you create a team of up to 4 mages who will fight cooperatively to defeat whichever Nameless nemesis has come through the breach today. You begin with a starting deck of 10 cards, 5 in hand. Each turn you play gems to gain aether, which is used to buy new gems and relics, learn new spells, and increase your casting potential by opening additional breaches. You can also play relics to give yourself or your allies a boost. Then prep spells to your opened or focused breaches to be ready to cast them on your subsequent turns.

What makes Aeon’s End unique is how it uses randomness. Unlike other deck building games, players do not shuffle their deck when it runs out. The order in which you discard is preserved so plan your discards carefully to set yourself up for subsequent turns.

Instead, randomness in Aeon’s End comes in the order of turns. At the start of each round, the turn order deck is shuffled to determine the order of play. Will the nemesis go twice in a row, pushing back the mages’ defense? Will the mages get 4 turns in a row to set up for the coming onslaught? It can be hard to know what’s coming next when you are deep in the melee!

Finally, there’s the city of Gravehold. The breach mages of Aeon’s End are not just fighting for their own survival, but the survival of all of humanity, and the Nameless know it. If Gravehold is ever reduced to 0 life, the mages have lost and humanity is but a memory. Protect the city at all costs!

What is included:

Aeon’s End includes the following:

8 Breach Mages:
  • Adelheim
  • Brama
  • Jian
  • Kadir
  • Lash
  • Mist
  • Phaedraxa
  • Xaxos

Each Mage has a unique starting card and a unique ability that can be charged to use in the fight. For example, Kadir has a gem that allows her to heal herself or an ally, and an ability that allows an ally to dig for and prep spells. Xaxos has a spell that allows him to reveal the top card of the turn order deck and an ability that helps allies charge their abilities.

The Market:
You build your deck with player cards from the market. 3 gems, 2 relics, and 4 spells allow you to grow your powers to hold back the nemesis. The market is constructed from 27 unique gems, relics, and spells. Either take a randomly generated market, or build the perfect one yourself during setup.

4 Nameless Nemeses:
  • Carapace Queen
  • Crooked Mask
  • Prince of Gluttons
  • Rageborne

Each Nemesis plays differently with unique mechanics to keep even the most powerful breach mages on their toes. Rageborne lays on the damage in a more frontal assault using the Strike Deck, whereas the Prince of Gluttons fights more of a war of attrition, devouring player cards from the market.

Aside from their unique mechanics, the Nemesis deck is created before each game from a combination of basic and nemesis-specific cards. You may encounter the same Nemesis many times, but it will never attack you in exactly the same way twice.

Expand your gameplay options with DLC:
  • Promo Pack 1 (Free) includes mage Xae from One Deck Dungeon, along with 3 digital exclusive player cards and 3 basic nemesis cards.
