Inscryption V1.10 - Now on Mac and Linux!

Normally Unity makes Mac / Linux ports fairly easy but due to the scope and weirdness of Inscryption there were plenty of platform specific bugs to work out. Huge thanks to Ryan Lee (@belbeeno) who single-handedly destroyed these bugs. And thank you to the beta testers who played the Mac and Linux versions and reported them!

In working on these ports (and a few other ones stimulation) we came across some issues that have existed in the Windows version since Kaycee's Mod. The following will be fixed in V1.10:


  • Fixed: The Trapper's Skinning Knife from Kaycee's Mod appearing as a random item drop in Part 1 and Kaycee's Mod. It was only meant to be available by purchasing it from the Trapper directly.
  • Fixed: The "Blood Artist" achievement unlocking too early.
  • Fixed: Rare soft lock in the Cave Trial if mouse-ninja'ing a certain way.
  • Fixed: Pressing the CC button while fast-forwarding through that sweet sweet Lucky Carder footage caused the fast-forward visual effects to stop.
  • Other minor graphical issues fixed.

Inscryption: Kaycees Mod - Out Now!

Kaycee's Mod is a free mini-expansion for Inscryption that hacks Leshys Cabin into an endless, and increasingly challenging, roguelike. Apply different skulls to your run to ascend the Challenge Levels. Reaching new levels unlocks new cards, challenges, and dev logs inscribed by the late Kaycee Hobbes as she uncovered the secrets on the disk.

Kaycee's Mod unlocks when you beat Inscryption for the first time. It can also be accessed via a cheat code: Shift+K+M on the Start Menu screen.

Huge thanks to everyone who participated in the beta! Thousands of bug / feedback reports were sent by tens of thousands of beta testers. It was a lot of fun to take suggestions from the community and watch their reactions to every patch.

It's close!


  • The Daus' Chimes also inherit sigils from The Daus, just like the Beaver.
  • Fixed: Multiple of certain sigils appearing on cards (Bonedigger, Fecundity).
  • Fixed: Royal victory not counting towards Bosses Defeated stat.
  • Fixed: Totems with the Fledgling sigil re-triggering when cards are moved by certain sigils.

  • Did you know the crew of The Limoncello was supposed to mutinee as the ship is being attacked? I don't know how you would because it was bugged. But now it works!
  • Fix for "Skull Storm" achievement not unlocking.
  • Check the Challenge Level achievements every time the Kaycee's Mod menu is opened. This should unlock them for those who have passed the required Challenge Level but didn't get the achievement. This also applies to "Start // Finish".
  • Fixed: Another issue with the GetFairHand algorithm. Cards with a cost of 1 bone are not counted as free.
  • Localization bug fixes.

  • Fixed: The infamous "GetFairHand" bug. It is a bit surreal to have players point out the exact line of code that is causing a bug that has been in the game for years...

This is the last major patch! Thank you so much to everyone who playtested this expansion and offered feedback, bug reports and ideas. The final thing will launch soon but we need to make sure all the bugs and balance issues are sorted out.

  • Heave... ho... heave... ho...
  • Localization complete for Kaycee's Mod! All languages supported. Expect a few localization related bugs.
  • Non-sacrificable cards can be sacrificed if they have the Triple Blood sigil.
  • The Bell Squid also gains power from the Daus Chimes.
  • Mycologist issue with 3x+ of same card: The pairs are selected to result in a card with the most sigils when combined.
  • Pelt Lice can gain a totem ability when leaping out from your deck or hand.
  • The Kraken's tentacles gain sigils that were placed on the Kraken.
  • Cards with the Bees Within and Rabbit Hole sigils now transfer their additional sigils to the Bees and Rabbits they create.

Kaycee's Mod V0.29

We're getting close to the end! There's still one last fun surprise to be added before Kaycee's Mod is complete, but this patch ain't it.


  • Replaced the Otter in the Waterborne starter deck with a Kraken.
  • Random Starter option in the starter deck selection screen.
  • Card modifications to the Curious Egg will apply to the Hydra.
  • Amalgam counts as an Ant.
  • Long Elk's Vertebrae can be sacrificed.
  • More encounter difficulty nerfs. Yes, Ants was still one of the most failed encounters.
  • Fixed: The Annoying sigil is now applied to starter deck cards with more than 1 sigil (Kingfisher, Tadpole) for the Annoying Starters challenge. How annoying! But for all you modders out there: you can now show 3 default sigils on a Part 1 card.
  • Fixed: Curious Egg portrait not changing after hatching.
  • Fixed: Fecundity nerf not working when the sigil is given via totem.

  • The final Rare card has been added to Kaycee's Mod! It is only available via a unique starter deck unlocked in the late challenge levels.
  • Starter deck rejiggering: Bones deck is changed to be more canine-centric, a new (somewhat boring but necessary) bird-themed starter deck is added, and the unlock order is rearranged a bit.
  • Remastered 3D model of Leshy's camera with a light-up sigil when you snap a pic of him (thanks @lumoize10!)
  • New sound effects for the Wiseclock and Magickal Bleach items (thanks Jonah!)
  • Extra attacks from Trifurcated / Bifurcated / Double Strike now stack.
  • Long Elk buff: It discards its hideous Vertebrae as it shambles across the board.
  • Kaycee has decided to nerf the Fecundity Sigil, making it so that the copied card does not have the sigil. This only applies to Kaycee's Mod.
  • The Trader has run out of patience for your lousy pelts. She refuses to trade for your pelts if they are infested with Pelt Lice.
  • Fixed: Bugs related to reviewing deck during a Cave Trial.

  • The Trapper was concerned that you didn't always want to buy his pelts with your hard-earned teeth. He is now offering his Skinning Knife for the low, low cost of 7 teeth to passing Challengers.
  • Succeeding at a cave trial now awards more powerful creatures: they have 2 random additional sigils instead of 1.
  • Difficulty nerf to the 3 most failed encounters according to analytics.
  • Difficulty nerf: The challenge points requirements for the first 2 Challenge Levels are lowered.
  • Card tweaks: Alpha -1 Bones Cost, Daus joins the Hooved tribe, Pelt Lice has Double Strike.
  • Fixed: Multiple copies of some sigils appearing on Mycologist fused cards.
  • Fixed: Infinite Magpie's Glass from Oil Painting.
  • Fixed: Moon still immune to Stinky after being Magickal Bleached.

This patch is more focused on player feedback (submitted on Discord) than the prior ones. There are too many good suggestions to feasibly act on, but I tried to pick some of my favorites.


  • New Rare card (a late unlock) based on a player suggestion.
  • 3rd and final new item (unlocked via oil painting) based on a player suggestion.
  • Removed the Weak Starters challenge - it had no effect when picked alongside certain starter decks (Mantis God, etc.) It has been replaced with a player suggestion: Annoying Starters. Your starter deck cards come with the Annoying sigil!
  • Added an Aquasquirrel figurine to sit beside the Squirrel pile when the Squirrel Fish challenge is active. Thanks Cody!
  • BEAVER BUFF. +1 health and Dams now inherit the extra sigils on the Beaver.
  • Changed Raccoon cost from 3 Bones to 1 Blood.
  • Fixed: Amorphous sigil sometimes not working due to randomly picking a sigil that was already on the card.
  • Fixed: Several rare soft-lock bugs, some of which were caused by the Scavenger sigil.
  • Fixed: Being able to sometimes play cards during the combat phase or during Leshy's turn in rare cases.

  • A strange gramophone has appeared in the cabin.
  • Added text to the pause menu that shows what map number you are on.
  • Only punish an aborted run if the End Run card is used during the first map. Losing legitimately will start the next run with the full 2 Rabbit Pelts. Also added dialogue to explain what is happening.
  • Any card with a Touch of Death sigil can poison the campfire survivors.
  • The Trial of Kin can be passed with 2 identical cards, even if they do not belong to a tribe.
  • Ijiraq's disguise appears with red eyes when viewing your deck.
  • Fixed: Part 1 finale boons trial bug.
  • Fixed: Mushrooms when picking Rare Cards not moving when viewing deck.

  • The new items for Kaycee's Mod are now in this version. They can be unlocked via the Oil Painting.
  • Another slight difficulty nerf: prevent Leshy from using the most powerful sigils for his totems in the final boss battle (those included Bifurcated Strike, Touch of Death, etc.). Also do not allow him to use the Airborne sigil, because flying over gold nuggets is bullshit.
  • Increased the amount of challenge points awarded for More Difficult and Single Candle challenges.
  • Fixed: Single Candle challenge simply not working.
  • Fixed: No Trappers appearing on the map if the All Totems challenge is enabled.
  • Fixed: Being able to use a starter deck before it is unlocked.
  • Fixed: Ijiraq copying the Static Glitch card and causing other issues.
  • Fixed: Pelt Lice not being an insect (you deserved better, dear lice).
  • Fixed: AquaSquirrels not being counted toward Squirrels Harmed stat (you deserved better, aquasquirrels).

Starter decks! It's not at the top of everyone's list but I think it will add some interesting variety to the start of runs and it was relatively easy to implement.

  • Unlockable themed Starter Decks that define your initial cards other than the Rabbit Pelts. There are currently 4 including the "Vanilla" deck. 4 more will be added in a later update.
  • Slight nerf to final boss Phase 1 by default. But fixed the issue of the "More Difficult" skull not effecting this battle.
  • Prevent generating 2 Backpack events in a row at the end of a map.
  • Fixed: One Half Bones sigil not in the rulebook.
  • Fixed: Strange Pupa not evolving if you have an Insect + Fledgling totem.

Kaycee's Mod V0.20

Wow, a lot of people joined the beta! There are some strong reactions both positive and negative so that's fun. I received over 1000 bug / feedback reports so part of my time today (and the task is ongoing) is figuring out a way to sort and parse all this feedback. Don't stop sending it though! It's a good problem to have.

This patch is mostly meant to address the high difficulty level that many players are struggling with. Kaycee's Mod is meant to be challenging, but maybe more players should at least be able to clear Challenge Level 1 and start unlocking new cards. Today's patch will hopefully address this.

  • Added an extra row of special events (The Stones, Campfire, etc.) before every boss on each map.
  • Nerfed the 5 most failed encounters according to analytics.
  • Fixed: The pricetag for the Trapper's Golden Pelts not displaying the proper value.
  • Fixed: Mud Turtle not being a member of the Reptile tribe. I am so sorry Mud Turtle you deserve better.

V1.08 patch!

It's strange to do this few patches after a launch. I can't believe how few major bugs there are and so again I have to thank the beta testers and the QA teams. Since I haven't had too many bugs to worry about I've been working on a little something that many people have requested. Hoping to give an update on that in the coming weeks!


  • Fix for Guardian + Bifurcated Strike bug. It was possible to lock up the game when attacking with a card that had both those sigils.
  • Fix for issues caused by winning a battle by using the Pliers for the first time.
  • Localization fixes / edits.

Another lil patch: V1.07

I have to say it again: thank you so much for playing. I'm still a bit overwhelmed but I hope to reply to everyone who has reached out eventually.

More bug fixes incoming!


  • I don't know how it was happening but some people were having their resolution saved to 1 pixel tall and were then unable to change it back through the game. This should be fixed now by ensuring a minimum resolution when the game is booted up.
  • Fixed soft-lock in Part 3 caused by there being no valid cards in your deck for an upgrade (new ability, etc.)
  • Fixed for soft-lock caused by using Mrs. Bomb's Remote on The Archivist and then using the hammer to destroy all the Librarians in one explosive fell swoop.
  • Fix for some localization issues: typos/grammer/spelling and dialogue codes like "" appearing for some languages in some places.

Second patch! V1.06

This launch has gone, in a word, swimmingly. Thank you thank you to everyone who is taking a chance on this game!


  • The most common bug I'm still hearing is corrupted save files caused by crashes, power outages, etc. while the game is saving. Now, a backup file will be created every time the game is saved. And you'll also be given a message if you load the game with a corrupted save instead of just a broken Start screen.
  • I also heard from people who use a virtual keyboard to play games due to a disability or for other reasons. The way the game locked the cursor within the window was preventing them from using their virtual keyboard. There isn't a proper option yet, but if you press Ctrl+Shift+U you can unlock the cursor from the window.
  • Fixed a rare soft-lock caused by encountering The Mycologists with only talking cards.
  • Fix for a visual bug after defeating G0lly in Part 3 - her boss battle effects did not disappear after the battle.
  • Other small issues fixed.

The most common issue was with achievements. This patch should fix that and will even retroactively award some achievements. If you're still having issues after this update let me know in a reply to this post!


  • Fixed achievements issues. If they don't unlock now, they will re-attempt the unlock when using Continue from the Start Screen.
  • Fix for rare blocking bug at The Stones if you have 2+ cards that can be sacrificed but the sacrifices have no sigils that can be given to a host.
  • Fixed a few more minor issues.

Wow... Inscryption is out!

Thanks so much to everyone who has followed the game, played the demo, tested the beta, or left a kind comment. Your positivity powered the development of this game, from its game jam inception in December 2018 right up to these final feverish days of bleary-eyed bug fixing.
