We are nearly ready to drop the 1.5 update on Steam and other platforms and wanted to update our community before this happens due to the major changes coming in this update.
First, the in-game level editor and Steam Workshop integration have been removed in 1.5. This is primarily because this feature could not be ported to other platforms and as we merged features we added in the 1.3 and 1.4 updates, which were not ported to Steam, we made the decision to eliminate this unused and hard-to-maintain feature.
Second, we will no longer be supporting Steam Input. As an Unreal Engine game, we have moved to a fully-customizable input scheme based on the built-in Enhanced Input plugin from the engine. This means input customization for keyboard and controllers is now fully in-game.
There are many more changes coming in 1.5, so stay tuned! In the meantime, here's a sneak peek:
Fixed issues in Chapter 7 levels 14 and 18. Updated particle effects to match upcoming console release.
Major update 1.1.1 of Paladin's Passage is now available for all Steam platforms with the following changes:
- Added 20 new bonus levels in a 7th chapter.
- Added localization for French, Spanish, German, Portuguese, Italian, Simplified Chinese, Korean and Japanese.
- Streamlined and simplified UI and strings to better support localization.
- Added new fonts for CJK languages.
- Leaderboards for each level can now be viewed from the level's UI menu.
- Overall game leaderboards are now shown directly on information page.
- Additional updates to spawned skulls to ensure they correctly register events to stop falling.
- Updated spark ball logic to correctly fly off when blocks they are circling is/are removed.
- Fixed some problems with total game statistics.
- Cleaned up achievements and related stats.
- Tweaked a few levels to address visibility, difficulty and completeness issues.
- Fixed a bug with some duplicate level GUIDs.
- Added trail to player interaction/swing.
- Chapters now listed by name instead of number.
- Added more variations for level backgrounds, weather and music.
- Fixed a bug with background fog not always rendering.
- Editor grid is now correctly hidden when exiting editor.
- Improved OS language detection on first start-up.
- Level completed page now correctly shows stars required for next locked level (not just next level).
- Tweaked default graphics settings for improved quality and performance on first launch.
The 1.0.2 release of Paladin's Passage is now available for all platforms, fixing the following issues: - Switched Steam Deck and Apple Silicon GPU builds to use Temporal AA Upsampling for better performance. Unfortunately, FSR 2 doesn't work on Steam Deck with UE 5.2. - When closing the Steam Overlay with Escape/Back button, in-game menus no longer close. - Spawned skull enemies no longer intermittently get stuck. - Removed mouse settings from UI. - Fixed issues with Community involvement and Popularity achievements not working. - Cleaned up some extra items in level editor palette. - Disabled erroneous achievement for unlocking chapter 1. - Updated scoring for collecting fairies (or fairy).
First, enjoy the Launch Trailer and let it guide your hammer to victory! [previewyoutube=CJ678qSm8Iw;full][/previewyoutube]
We are still looking for your feedback on level design, difficulty, graphics, performance and overall gameplay. This 4th playtest release features support for SteamDeck (fully native) and MacOS with Windows support available, too, of course.
This release fixes or updates 47 issues from Playtest 3. First and foremost, we've migrated to Unreal Engine 5.2.1 and have full support for DLSS 3 and FSR 2.2 now! We've put a lot of work into the level designs, graphics and special effects AND made some tweaks to the player movement to make it feel a little more responsive when moving, jumping and falling. The themes for Chapters 1-3 are fully implemented with unique enemies, backgrounds, blocks, weather and FX in each.
There is a known issue with MacOS: if you are on a newer M1 or M2 (Apple Silicon) Mac, you'll need to run with [Rosetta enabled.](https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT211861) We are shipping a Universal MacOs build with this playtest, but due to a bug in the communication between Valve's SteamWorks APIs and Epic's Unreal Engine OnlineSubsystemSteam APIs which causes an immediate crash, only the Intel x64 version works correctly Hopefully this gets sorted out between now and our go-live next month.
As usual, if you have any problems or feedback, you can reach us on Discord, drop a comment on the community page or even shoot us an email.
After our participation in the summer 2022 Steam Next Fest events, we decided to pull back from a 2022 launch and focus on the feedback we'd received from those who played the Paladin's Passage demo and from a number of other developers, publishers and marketing companies who reached out both during the event and in the weeks that followed. In the 8 months that followed, we have made significant progress in some key areas - Levels are much brighter and more dynamic, providing a better experience for players - Steam Workshop integration is ready to go with a brand new, fully 3D level editor - Support for Steam Deck is complete for both native and streamed gameplay - Artwork, animations, effects and gameplay have all be re-worked In addition, we're bringing on an experienced level designer (Ray) to the team to help create some new ideas for both the puzzle and platform game aspects. He has his work cut out for him: the game ships with over 100 levels! Our goal is to finish everything up for a late-summer 2023 launch, so we're only weeks away! Stay tuned for more details... This is a test broadcast, the first time we are doing this, in preparation for Steam NextFest.
Bent Vector Studios will be hosting a live broadcast event to show off the gameplay of our upcoming title: Paladin's Passage. I'll be available to answer any questions you have about the game and game development in general.
[previewyoutube=zrnHJlMjIv8;full][/previewyoutube]
Watch a play-through for a bunch of levels and get answers any questions you have about the game itself and development in general. We'll be playing a full version of the game, not the demo, so you'll have a chance to see some features not available until the game gets into Early Access, including some new levels, the level editor, achievements, leaderboards and more.
Learn more about the story behind the game, the development process, the story of how it came to be and how it has iterated numerous times over the development lifecycle.
Find out what we're planning for the Early Access stage starting on June 21st, including new features, platforms and online gameplay plans.

This release includes a completely new menu system and some new backgrounds and levels. I'd love feedback on the new menus, especially the display and graphics configurations.
Level backgrounds have been changed so each level is different now, however these are still placeholders as I work on final artwork. I also have a new model for the main player, a wonderful dwarf Paladin in full armor with a massive hammer!
I've added music to each level; Some wonderful medieval instrumental music; close enough for my purposes.
Thank you to everyone for their interest in the Paladin's Passage playtest. We've had quite a few people indicate interest in participating in the testing process today. I am going to push a new build to the playtest in the next few hours and then open things up for people to access it. This first beta will have a limited number of levels (roughly 24), so we're mostly looking for feedback on how the game runs on your Windows PC, if you can provide it: - Did you have fun playing the game? - Any problems with installation? - Did the game launch correctly and take you to the start page? - Did the default settings of 1920x1080/60Hz video resolution work correctly? - Were you able to try different resolutions and/or video settings? - How was the overall performance? In addition, there are two game modes: classic and modern. Please try out both and let us know what you think: - Difficulty levels are not currently enabled (though you get asked to pick one). How did you find the difficulty of the gameplay? - Animations, textures and particle effects are not final artwork. What do you think of the current artwork? Thanks for your support!
