Always have a path - The philosophy of pathways in 'Greek Tragedy'

Navigating the Labyrinth

In the shadowy corridors and mystic landscapes of "Greek Tragedy," every step you take is laden with significance. Our commitment to creating a game environment that is as enigmatic as it is navigable has led us to a design philosophy that celebrates choice, exploration, and the thrill of discovery. Here's a closer look at how we ensure you're never lost in the dark, yet always on the brink of uncovering secrets hidden in plain sight.

The Art of Visible Paths:

Choice is the cornerstone of adventure in "Greek Tragedy." We meticulously craft every pathway, visible and obscure, to offer you a spectrum of possibilities. Whether it's a glaringly obvious route fraught with danger or a subtle nudge towards a hidden alcove, the environment is designed to keep you intrigued, engaged, and always moving forward. Our world is a puzzle, with each piece beckoning you closer to the truth, or perhaps leading you astray with a red herring that's as compelling as the genuine path to your next objective.

Red Herrings & Hidden Gems:

In the tradition of the greatest mysteries, not every clue leads to salvation. Our game thrives on the presence of red herringspaths that seem promising but may lead to unexpected outcomes. Yet, these detours are never without their rewards, offering deeper insight into the lore of "Greek Tragedy" or providing challenging encounters that test your resolve. Similarly, pathways hidden in plain sight challenge you to look beyond the obvious, to question every shadow and every seemingly inconsequential detail. It's a reminder that sometimes the most significant discoveries lie just beyond the edge of perception.

Illuminating the Darkness:

Unlike games that rely on pitch-black darkness to create tension, "Greek Tragedy" ensures that you can always see where you're going. Our lighting design not only enhances the game's haunting atmosphere but also serves as a guide through its darkest corners. We believe in lighting the way forwardnot with glaring beacons, but with subtle cues that encourage exploration without leaving you stranded in frustration. This approach allows for an immersive experience that rewards curiosity and bravery, without the need for arbitrary stumbling in the dark. "Greek Tragedy" invites you into a world where the path you choose can define your destiny. Our design philosophy ensures that each pathway, whether clear as day or shrouded in mystery, is a thread in the larger tapestry of the game's narrative. We encourage you to explore every nook and cranny, to embrace the journey with all its twists and turns, and to discover the stories that lie waiting in the shadows. In "Greek Tragedy," the light always finds a way to pierce the darkness, and so too will you find your way through the challenges that await.

Looking back at 2023 & status update

Hello Students! We have been busy working on Greek Tragedy. The past few months were extremely intense for our small, but very dedicated team. We spent days and nights on improving Greek Tragedy, preparing for its official release. We mainly focused on performance so that players who use lower-end computers would have a great and smooth experience. Making sure the game is well balanced requires a lot seriously, A LOT of small & big tweaks, adjustments, tests and time - hence the silence. We took a closer look at lighting in some of the scenes and discovered a need to rebuild every light, using a different technology than out of the box lighting. This change greatly increased performance!

It feels like we spent tons of hours on finding the perfect solution. In the meantime we also found some light-related bugs that we were able to address. ________________________________________________________ Performance and game fixes werent the only things we focused on. To spread the word about Greek Tragedy, we took part in many local events this past year. We started 2023 off by visiting Ohayocon in January. Ohayocon is a three-day long anime convention typically held in Columbus, Ohio. As were from Michigan, it was a lot of fun to be a part of it!

The second event that we visited in 2023 was The Game Designer Expo. This one took place in our hometown - Ann Arbor, Michigan! Michigan is home to numerous game developers. game designers etc. The Game Designer Expo is a great way to celebrate gaming and a huge chance for people to sample their diverse and creative work, so we felt like it was a must for us to be there and showcase our game.
Our 3rd event - GDEX took place in June 2023 so we made it to Columbus, OH again!

A few months after that we visited Detroit for Youmacon which made it the last event of 2023 for us! It was a lot of fun to be there with our Greek Tragedy and to see everybody get through the demo!
Wishlist and follow Greek Tragedy as it helps spread the word and make the game more visible on Steam + will keep you tuned to our news! Expect more frequent updates from us as we're preparing for our release date announcement! We also have a Discord server in which you can talk to us, We'd love to hear your feedback & experiences after playing our demo!
Till next time! Cute Spooks, Prairieville Games & Pineapple Works

We have updated our demo!

Dear Students,

We have been gathering your feedback regarding the initial version of our demo for quite some time now. We have gone through it very carefully, decided to make a few improvements and fix any bugs that were reported to us either by you or our QA team. Some of you have played our demo that's available here, others had a chance to try it out at events such as YumaCon, OHAYOCON or GDEX! The events were a great experience and we're extremely happy we got to meet everyone, chat with you and watch you play. Especially during the events we have noticed that some players found it more challenging and difficult to get through the first few minutes of gameplay in which they were introduced to tank controls, very narrow paths and first puzzle. To make it more accessible and easier to get used to, we decided to add a few additional minutes of gameplay that will hopefully be a good introduction to what you can expect later in game... What else changed?

Here's our full change log:

  • A few minutes of additional content that provides much improved pacing and more gradual puzzle difficulty
  • Bug fixes
  • Randomized puzzle solutions
  • Performance optimization for lower-end devices.
We will leave it for you to find out where those additional few minutes were added and what they bring. At the same time we would love to hear your feedback regarding the changes! Here's a small teaser:

Welcome to Southern Michigan University, your midwestern home for... horror. Explore our hallowed halls, meet new...friends... and discover your inner spirit via our diverse and inclusive assortment of... fraternities. Strange puzzles, spooky chases, and a cultist conspiracy await in this 90s-era survival horror experience. We think you'll agree, there's just something in the air at Southern Michigan University!

STORY

While immersing herself deeply in her creative writing, Amy Chipley suddenly gets an urgent message from Kurt, her boyfriend. The cryptic e-mail implores her to meet up with him at the Student Union Building, and suggests immediate danger.

Locked in the common room with strange, foul-smelling gas seeping in, Amy must do her best to find a way out quickly, else she perishes at the hands of a bloodthirsty cult. Why are there cameras in the dorm rooms? What do these robed fraternity brothers want? And how do ancient gemstones fit into all of this?

Investigate the conspiracy and uncover secrets behind a recent wave of disappearances, rescue Kurt and expose the truth behind it all, or get the hell out as quickly as possible. You’ve still got student loans to pay, after all.
