At long last, you can now play The Roottrees are Dead in French, German and Spanish! The game should auto detect your system language when you start it up, but in case it does not pick it correctly, there is now a "Language" setting you can change. There was a tremendous amount of text to translate, so you may encounter bugs, typos, and other translation issues. As a result, for now we are calling this a Beta Release and asking our players to report issues on our Steam Discussions. Last week we reached a major sales milestone: The Roottrees are Dead has sold over 100,000 copies on Steam!

This is mind-blowing. We never expected so many people to enjoy our little game, and the response has been overwhelming. It has exceeded every expectation we had, and we can't express how thankful we are.

Later this month, we'll be releasing translations in Spanish, German and French, which we hope will allow even more players around the world to experience the intricacies of the mysterious Roottree family.

We also have launched the Steam page for our next project: The Incident at Galley House - if you enjoyed Roottrees and want to continue supporting us, one of the best things you could do is add it to your wishlist.

Just a small one today! This adds a couple extra articles that expands in-game lore. It also has more support for the upcoming translations (FR/ES/DE) that we are working on.

• Fixes a bug with "Search all Periodicals" where if you changed your keyword the links would stop working.
• A non-English search term was only working with a tilde. If you typed it instead of copying and pasting and omitted that accent it didn't work. Now it does!
• Added a note to the credits to clarify that no generative AI artwork is used in the Steam version of the game.
• Fixed an issue where having a controller plugged in with a particular config option could crash the game

• There's a link to sign up to our mailing list on the main menu. We've started working on something new, and if you're interested in finding out when we have something to announce, the easiest way is to join our email list. We promise not to email you very often!
• Fixes an issue where the game could crash while using OBS/Streaming under some circumstances.
• Fixed text on a magazine that didn't make sense, given its date.
• Fixed some invalid punctuation.
• Changed some text that indicated someone was born with an alias, which they weren't.

This patch only contains fixes for typos and other text that was incorrect or misleading. Thanks to our eagle-eyed investigators for pointing these out!

• New Rain effects! In Roottreemania, the intro now has a soothing rain visual/audio effect. It will also rain at random times throughout your mystery.
• A new music track added! This one is an easter egg.
• Fixes an issue where you could lock in an invalid portrait for the final person in The Roottrees are Dead.
• Fixed bad cropping of one of the newly updated portraits.
• Fixes several more typos. Thanks to our eagle eyed players for hunting them down.

• This update changes the look of The Roottree Sisters (and our logos and key art, etc. - Trailer will be updated soon) The original piece was the first one illustrated for the game, and over the development we learned more about what we wanted the style to look like and got more comfortable working with our artist. Hopefully it's not too weird to swap it out, but I think most people will prefer the new art!
• We've added some extra clues and minor artwork changes to differentiate between two siblings that people had trouble with.
• There's a new visual clue in a couple pieces of art to help identify a family member who appears in a group photo.
• Also, some other minor visual touch ups to a few other pieces of art.
• Fixes a typo in a series of adventure novels
• More tweaks to allow for game translations.

- FIX: Uses a new approach to temporary files to hopefully make save files more robust when using aggressive virus scanners - FIX: Uses more complete Godot builds which might help compatibility for some people. - FIX: Cursor keys moved between evidence when in the notebook and editing text. - FIX: Pressing a button on the main menu in 16:10 had a black box behind it - UX: More tweaks for non-English language support - Fixes one "occurence" of a typo. Get it? It should have been "occurrence."

- This build adds some safety to game threading code, to try and help out with an issue that some players are having where their saves are corrupted. - It also contains some basic scaffolding for other language support (coming soon!) - Finally, fixes exactly 1 typo.

Just a small update today with some small fixes.

• Removed some background details from a couple illustrations in Roottreemania that brought dates into question.
• Improved the game's Danish by adding a - if this didn't count as a typo there would be none!
• Fixed a bug where the mouse cursor would turn to the hourglass while changing settings
• Fixed a bug where you could swap extra portraits for prefilled family tree entries in Roottreemania, and end up with a locked in ? icon. Now you can't do that anymore (it was the easiest fix.)
