Fixed some bugs and tweaked balance a little bit

  • Tweaked the enemies difficulty (increased their level up stats, so every 5 levels they will gain more HP and damage).
  • Rebalanced how the positive/negative cards scale (now the negative effects scale up faster and the positive ones scale up slower, instead of both scaling at the same rate)
  • Fixed a bug with the saving system which caused the reached level to not be properly saved when playing with the Assassin and with the Pyromancer.
  • Now the progress will save when you abandon a run and return to the main menu (the gathered relics will be granted and the reached level will be saved).
  • Added a "Leave us a review" button in the main menu :3

The big release! Three heroes to play with, and plenty of powerful items!

We are releasing Quest of the Hero and can't wait for you to try it out! We've been working for two years on it, we went through 4 major gameplay changes over this time, and we integrated all the feedback we got from our play testers. We truly believe that we got to a point where the game is fun, engaging and has plenty of content to keep you engaged for a few hours at least.

The three heroes await to embark on a few dungeons runs!

  • Valeria Ironheart, the Iron Guard who is a fighter that employes a balanced combination of offensive and defensive skills

  • Nyssa Blackthorn, the Assassin who is a quick and swift dagger wielding fighter that relies on quick attacks, critical hits and making her enemies bleed out

  • Aria Emberflame, the Pyromancer who bursts down her enemies with fire elemental spells.

New content - May 2025

We're releasing some new content, with some new items that will be available in the demo. Unfortunately we're using some placeholder art for the next 1-2 weeks for some of these items, but we're working tirelessly to get the proper artwork ready! Here's what other changes we did:

  • We removed the hammer weapons. We concluded that their slowness wasn't a good fit for the pace of the game, and their crit based effects were not frequent enough to justify playing a hammer build.
  • We increased the attack rate of daggers (to 1 second per attack) and swords (1.4 seconds per attack)
  • We reworked the constellations and how they are offering permanent bonuses for your runs, so you can reach further more easily.
  • We made the enemies a little bit bulkier because it was too easy to defeat them
  • We adjusted how the level progression works. Now, leveling is more liniarily difficult versus exponentially how it was before.
  • We added some new recipes - tier 2 recipes that require a tier 1 + orbs.
  • We added some new item types to test out: necklaces which improve the bonuses of the cards and rings which offer various in-combat bonuses.
  • Enemies now can drop items as loot
  • Added a new consumable, Soul Fragment, which can be used to remove one random status (it can remove even the Doom debuff).
  • Various bugfixes

Major gameplay update

We listened to the feedback and made some changes! The most overwhelming feedback we got so far fell into two categories: lacking a tutorial and the game not being fun enough. We addressed them both. Here's how: 1. Lack of tutorial: we added some tutorial screens that explains a but about what everything means around the screen. This should be enough for anyone to get an idea about what they can do. 2. Game to be more fun: we acknowledge that the initial game lacked the proper incentives to make progress and make that progress feel fun, as it was centered around negative feedback loops (avoiding and minimizing bad effects) when usually fun games offer satisfaction through rewards and positive feedback loops. We redid the core gameplay loop, and now instead of getting three unrelated cards each turn with negative effects, you get a set of three cards: one green, one yellow, one red. The green one is the "safe option" which offers a small reward, the yellow one is a moderate risk one, which offers a bigger reward but also has a small negative attached to it, and the red one is a high risk high reward option. Oh yeah, and choosing the easy option too often is a recipe for getting Doomed and getting hit with a nasty and unfair debuff.

Demo is live now!

Good news, the Demo for Quest of the Hero is here! After a longer development time than expected and some bugs squashed at the last moment, the demo is here. You can get a taste of the game by playing it, and you'll be able to strategize, try out builds and try to get as far as possible in the endless dungeon full of dangers and hard choices. Will you do a full STR build to maximize damage? Or AGI to maximize attack speed? Or INT to maximize mana and skill damage? Or daggers to attack fast, with lower damage but land more critical strikes? It's up to you. In the Demo, you will have access to one hero, Valeria Ironheart, the Iron Guart. She is balanced hero, with a good balance between offensive and defensive skills. Be part of the community on Reddit, on /r/QuestOfTheHero, and let us know what you think! You can shape the direction of game by sending us ideas and feedback.

Demo is coming: quick update about the state of the game!

Hello everyone! Good news about Quest of the Hero. We are approaching the release of our demo in January, but we are still a few steps away from that. Right now, we are working on:

  • balancing items, skills
  • bugfixing, there are some quirks with the UI. We'll get the hand of it, we promise!
  • adding a new enemy type (in the demo, there will be two at the demo release date but we will add more as we finish their artwork).
  • we are adding some initial designs for all heroes (but they won't be playable in the demo).
  • we are replacing placeholder art with artist made art.
  • we are adding a dungeon picker (in the demo, only the Deep Forest will be playable, but in the full game release all the dungeon will be playable).
  • we are reworking our trailer. Stay tuned for a new one!

Quest of the Hero is a quick session fantasy based dungeon crawler with risky choices, semi-idle combat, skill and item building which has a lot of depth and strategy options.

Make choices at every step. Will you be lucky? Or peril will be coming your way?

Each turn pick one of the three presented cards, each one giving you unique bonuses or unleashing bad forces upon you. Is it all luck? Or can you strategize?

Play as one of the heroes with unique play styles

Choose one of the three available heroes, with different play styles, strengths and weaknesses.

  • The Iron Guard - a balanced warrior, part of the Iron Guards guild who protects the Iron Fortresses. Strives to balance offensive and defensive spells.

  • The Assassin - a quick and swift outlaw that focuses on speed and landing critical hits out of the shadows.

  • The Pyromancer - a magic wielding hero, trained in the forgotten arts of elemental manipulation, that bursts enemies down with fire spells

Quick semi-idle combat. Build up your stats and use spells to overwhelm your foes

Defeat your enemies using a combination of physical attacks and spells. Each hero has its own combat style, and you can also choose different builds to make it more interesting.

The whole world lays unexplored. It's all in the stars.

Collect Relics during your runs and use them to unlock the constellations which will enhance your dungeons with new abilities, bonuses and more powerful stats.

Many options to strategize and try new builds

You can combine items to create new, more powerful ones, that will give you better odds to reach further. Your enemies become stronger as you progress, so your items should too!

Upgrade your skills or replace them completely

Upgrade your spells to increase their power, or you can upgrade them to focus on the key abilities to reach further in the dungeon! Defensive or offensive? More debuffs? Better debuffs? More buffes? Healing? Try out multiple builds and reach further in the dungeon.
