We are blown away by the positive reception Near-Mage has had on Steam. Were currently at a 92% Very Positive rating, with over 100 reviews. Thank you for all the love and support! But no launch is perfect for every player, and we always keep an eye on your feedback and do our best to listen to suggestions.

A lot of players have said there is a bit too much hand-holding in the game.

Whats cool about this is that it effectively works like an easy / hard mode switch, and it turns the quest log into a sort of hint system.
You can turn objectives off and find your way around just based on the information the characters give you, and if youre really stuck (or forgot what you have to do) you can quickly check the quest log.
Even if you beat the game once, since its designed to be replayed and try new stuff, its an interesting way to experience its world again in a more challenging way.
These have always been in the game, but now they are neatly listed in a separate tab under Options.

Weve also added a helpful on-screen reminder of how to bring up your spell wheel during the time you cast your first spell.
Lots of people are playing Near-Mage on the Deck, and we're constantly fixing and tweaking stuff to make the experience smooth. Unfortunately we didn't have the time to apply for "Verified" before release, that's why it shows as "Unknown" on the page, but rest assured that it does work nicely.
All achievements now working properly ("Kick in the Door" was the only one that didn't trigger).
With hundreds of NPCs that always cycle it was inevitable that some wouldnt work properly. Weve temporarily removed a few that caused more confusion (looking at you, Lurdan on Black Lake Shore) and will spend some time resizing hotspots and moving things around.
We wanted to push this update out as soon as possible (it took a while to make the above changes), so were aware of a few edge cases that we havent had time to address in this patch. One of them is certain characters refusing to interact if youre flying. Its being fixed and will be in the next patch; for now if it happens exiting and re-entering the screen without flying should fix it.
We're always checking the Steam Discussions forums, so if you have any thoughts or suggestions, we want to hear your thoughts!
We're so humbled to be held in high praise by one of the biggest adventure game sites! Read the review below:

Thanks for playing and enjoying Near-Mage, and especially for your suggestions. Were always listening, and doing our best to improve the game based on your feedback. All our love and gratefulness for your support.
PS: If you loved Near-Mage, tell a friend who you think would love it too! We loved building the cozy, dark and colorful world of Rakus, Sighisoara and the TIM, and they always welcome new near-mages with open hands (and tentacles).

Near-Mage is a narrative-heavy adventure game with a bit of role-playing DNA that aims to appeal to hardcore players of the genre and newcomers alike.
Study spell crafting in the Transylvanian Institute for Magick as a Near-Mage;
Experience a deep and engaging story that plays like an adventure game;
Craft your own spell inventory, use it with different results in every play-through;
Dozens of vampyres, pricolitch, moroi, strigoi, ghouls, shtima - your spells change their lives for better or worse;
Hand-painted in glorious 4K and traditionally animated frame-by-frame;
Dozens of itemized outfits and hairstyles to customize your main character;
A game about Transylvania made by Transylvanians!
You're Illy Vraja, a teenager at a crossroads in her life who gets invited to Transylvania by her mysterious Great-Aunt, Domnica, only to find out she comes from a long line of witches, and is entitled to enroll in the Transylvanian Institute for Magick!
As a Near-Mage, you are entering a summer preparatory school, hoping to graduate into a full-fledged spell caster. You’ll take classes in different types of Magick and see how you can use your growing powers to affect the lives of those you come across.
We are from Transylvania, Romania ourselves, so we’re doing a deep dive into its rich lore, legends and superstitions, heavily drawing on them in creating Near-Mage’s dark and colorful world.
Travel freely between three main hubs: the real-life town of Sighișoara, the mythical town of Rakus, that lies beyond a Magickal veil and cannot be seen by most, and the Transylvanian Institute for Magick.
Near-Mage will allow for a lot of freedom when approaching the situations you’ll encounter within the Transylvanian Institute for Magick and its surroundings. When it comes to spell-crafting, you can choose what type of classes you’re taking on a whim, or you can look up recipes in a spellbook and strategize your build.
This build variety will in turn lead to different outcomes for some quest lines, affect certain NPCs’ fates, and result in high replayability. Maybe you’ve erased an NPC’s memory on your first play-through. What if you used a different spell on them this time around… or no spell at all?
You’ll be able to play Near-Mage as a point and click, or you can control the character directly. Walk to your objectives, run at full speed, or even fly there!
Make friends or enemies with fellow students, learn to be closer to your Magickal calling, and lift the veil off of ancient mysteries in Near-Mage!
