Toward Dawn - Demo Update

With the full release of Toward Dawn tomorrow, the demo has now been updated. This demo contains all the polished content for the main release. Saves from this demo can be carried forward to the full game. Thank you for your support for this solo-dev project! - Devi Serene Change Log: Story & Dialogue: Added a message notification for when you recieve the Moonblossom Crown after Liru's sidequest in Chapter 3. Added intro text to the opening of the game. The other chapters all get introductory poems. Added hotkey to change dialogue speed / autoplay during dialogue scenes. Added a new scene for chapter 3, which will optionally take you immediately to the next scene. Exploration: Added achievements Added new animations for Carys walking and jumping (+veil variants) Added footstep noises Added new animation to show the area name in the top left, when entering somewhere new. Added a Crafting Confirmation modal, you can also choose how many items you want to craft You can now craft items if one of the ingredients are currently equipped. The new item will replace the equipped item if possible. Added some alternate dialogue should you gather all the piano key pieces before interacting with the piano in ch3. Fixed bug that caused the piano puzzle in chapter 3 not to open the bookcase unless you reloaded the map. Fixed bug in trader UI where items would not properly sort after trading Fixed bug in trader UI where certain actions could result in no item being focused. Added new hotkeys for keyboard to enter the Inventory (I), Loadout (L) and AbilityTree (K). NPCs now have interaction icons WASD now work in battle and menus Added input prompts to the party menu tabs Battle: Fixed a bug where the focused ability for Carys' Incantation could not set properly when first opening the menu. Fixed a bug where Incantation of Regrowth passive would revive all party members on Carys' turn instead of just heal. Added sound effect for level up. Updated icons for the enemy intentions. The intentions now show the element or if they are doing a status move. Fixed a bug where the enemy intention portrait could be misaligned. Updated the combat UI, showing a unique variant for each character. Fixed various bugs associated with removal of status effects. Added options to the Battle screens. Updated all status effect icons. Status effect icons are easier to see in battle. During a unit's turn, they appear in the left hand side "Unit Data" book, allowing easier access to see what their current status effects are. Updated scroll bar for status effects in the Unit Data book. If the Unit Data book or Player Portrait has too many status effects to show, it will now gradually scroll across them. When mouse hovering a status effect, the details will remain in a consistent area. Fixed a bug where retrying a fight could swap enemy positions. Retrying a fight will now restore item uses. Reworked the Battle End UI Fixed grey background when retrying a fight after a gameover. Holding select will now speed up the animation for the experience gain. Updated various spell animations (Arc of Light, Earth Spells, etc). Fixed bug where an ability could show an incorrect mana cost if disabled via tutorials. Fixed bug where Carys' status effects could not be hovered with mouse. You can now mouse over enemies on the right enemy book / turn tracker to highlight them and bring up their details on the left. The turn tracker portraits now have layering logic - those higher up on the track will have higher priority (appearing on top). Highlighting a unit via targeting or hovering will override that logic and place them on top. You can now exit the battle end ui by clicking anywhere. You can now select the Incantations/Empower buttons with the mouse. Balance: Lowered Ceiliog Neidr health and poise Flux Echo now is random target, but has an upgrade to make it single target. EarthStrike incantation is now quicker to cast. Arc Cutter now chains between enemies, the incantation now targets all enemies. Increased the Health/Poise of enemies in Hard mode. Carys' Sanctify incantation no longer applies a status effect, instead restoring 50% of the Health damage dealt to herself. Additional Health/Poise Potency from equipment or passives now only give 50% effect for AOE abilities. (boosting this became way too strong) Removed Incantation of Dusk as a basic ability - now it is a weapon ability. Removed Cover ability upgrade tree (Bleddyn still has access to this ability by default). Added new Base Stats upgrade tree for all characters - Choose between Health/Poise/Potencies/etc to upgrade. This allows you to change how a character plays easier. Idwal's ability tree unlocks now cost appropriate AP. Sheltering Veil will now reduce damage taken from a particular element by 80% for one hit. Other: Added a tutorial for the skits. (If you view the first skit before you reach this trigger, the tutorial will not appear) When using a controller, the mouse cursor will be hidden (if returning to mouse/keyboard, it will show again) Opening the Steam Overlay will now pause the gameplay / battles / dialogue scenes. Added support for save transfer from demo to main game (sadly the Next Fest demo version is incompatible) Added Demo End screen that allows save for transfer, return to menu and quitting. Added new texture variants for the various abilities in the trees. Fixed a bug with autosaves that could potentially put you in 0,0 position on load Added default music and sound effect volume settings - starting at 35% instead of 100%. Added option to return to the Frontend in the Menu. Fixed a bug where ability tooltips could remain on the menu. Fixed a bug in the Incanter's Song minigame causing misses to occur at the opposite end of the tracker. Audio changes to allow more sound effects to play at the same time, and have the same sound effect to be able to be played multiple times during its playtime.

A New Retro-JRPG Inspired by Welsh Mythology

After her temple is raided, Carys finds herself at the mercy of Bleddyn, a Gwyllgi feared by society. But Carys finds that their differences only bring them closer - inspiring them both to seek answers to the events that led both their lives down a dark path. Toward Dawn features mythical beasts and themes inspired by Celtic legends - exploring trauma, cycles of abuse and friendship in recovery.

Explore a vibrant pixel world, matched by a charming and memorable cast of characters while you experience the story in animated scenes. Upgrade your abilities with individual skill trees, while you craft equipment that bestow unique actions and traits, tailoring the characters to your preferred playstyle.

With a combat system partially inspired by the Grandia and Octopath Traveler, BREAK your enemies' poise, removing their action and making them vulnerable to high damage. There are no random encounters or forced grinding, the focus is instead on your tactics and how you have chosen to develop the characters.

Get to know the characters more by viewing optional Skits, be distracted with the Dragon's Guard cardgame, and meet a variety of colourful characters in sidequests!

Characters

Carys
Carys is a priestess from the Temple of Two Dragons. The temple holds the original faith of the people of Draibryn, barely tolerated by the ruling One Church. She was originally a citizen of Llanllwch, where her father joined the Draibryn rebellion, but was ultimately killed. Her mother, a servant, found it incredibly hard to feed the family in the aftermath, and ended up dying in the pestilence that scourged the land. Carys was then adopted by the temple, and though she was never the most adept Incanter, it gave her a place to leave her past behind her.

Bleddyn
Bleddyn is a Gwyllgi, a wolf-man race. The Gwyllgi were enslaved by the Ampyrians, who used their fierce and powerful builds to carry out assassinations and wreak terror upon those who rebelled. Even today, the Gwyllgi are feared, and utilised by the current nobility for similar reasons. Bleddyn’s father was Gelert, a Gwyllgi personal guard for a noble family. However, an incident caused Bleddyn to leave the castle alone, though he isn't keen to talk about the past.

Idwal Thornfield
Idwal is the firstborn and only son of the Thornfield family. As a child, he was loud, playful, and intently curious about the world. Though now, he hides behind his long hair, his manner quiet and meek. One could mistake him for a beautiful maiden. Though full of doubt and always downplaying his own abilities, he is a skilled student of magic.
