ULTIMAHJONG is no longer under active development. UMJ was always a passion project for me and long story short, I've lost interest. I'm not giving up on the game completely, but development is at least going on hold for a while. Apologies to all those with high hopes for the game but I hope you at least enjoyed your time with the demo (which will remain available in its present state). In its stead I suggest you check out some similar games: https://store.steampowered.com/app/3066570/Aotenjo_Infinite_Hands/ my closest 'competitor', not based on riichi but I played the demo a while ago and thought it was pretty fun https://store.steampowered.com/app/2870290/Omoikane/ https://store.steampowered.com/app/2507870/Mahjick__The_Realm_Taker/ this one's been out for a while actually https://store.steampowered.com/app/2809920/Drop_Mahjong_tiles/ haven't played but i followed the devlogs and it looks cute https://store.steampowered.com/app/3488460/dirtbag_MAHJONG/ haven't played, been meaning to Thank you to everyone who's contributed to the game and the community, all I ever wanted with UMJ was to push mahjong forward a little and while I had hoped for more I'm content with what I have. Forgive me for not talking much about development, I'm not as publicly oriented as I had hoped. Soon:tm: I'll be releasing a free game over at https://nanahyakuman.itch.io/. It's a modern home-arcade style rhythm gamenothing like UMJ, I admit. If you're interested you can follow me there, although I'll probably make another announcement here.
Just pushed a quick hotfix to the demo that should alleviate some of the windows crashes, although I won't gurantee it fixes all of them. It also adds localized winds, incidentially. I'm going to have to look into this more in the future, but for now exporting the game in debug mode appears to have fixed a lot of the crashes I was getting on my laptop, and doesn't have much of an effect on gameplay. Literally speaking, the game is gonna theoretically run a little slower and be ~20mb larger but neither should really be noticable. Linux and macOS builds unaffected.
Yahallo! A demo build for ULTIMAHJONG is out now! I'm hoping you enjoy the build, and I'm looking forward to your feedback. I will be as responsive as I can wherever capable, but for anonymous feedback and bug reporting, please see the forms below: Feedback: forms.gle/MKQqbwEWAQV8YBUr6 Bug reporting: forms.gle/U9P2ZHiR5PwPYePx5 Enjoy the demo! There's no round limit or anything, so go wild with it. It's definitely a little light on items and so on right now, but I've found myself that there's still a lot of opportunity for creative plays to be made. Also, in the interest of transparency: I'll probably only leave the demo up for 2 or 3 weeks.
Yahallo! ULTIMAHJONG has been approved for participation in the March 25th Deckbuilders Fest! The game itself will not be releasing for a while, but I'd like to get a demo into everyone's hands as soon as possible and this seemed like the perfect opportunity. Note that the game is still in a really early state (easily less than 50% done), but I've seen an insane amount of interest in the game so far. I'm hoping to get feedback as early and often as I can manage, and it seems like time to start. I don't think I want to promise a discord server or anything like that, I'm not sure I have the time to keep that under control (full-time student), but I'm definitely at least gonna run a google form with some free response sections.
