What is Sophistry?
Have you ever watched a Korean drama - or any romantic drama for that matter -, and wished that the lead character was another protagonist of the show, or that the main lead went for another girl (or guy) than the one they featured?
In Sophistry, you live this drama the way you want! You want to see it from the eyes of the lead character, so be it, what about from the eyes of the second lead or even the antagonist? What do I say; you can even play it from the point of view of the love interest! What about romances? Here again, its your choice, your story.
With 6 playable characters and each with 3 potential love interests, thats a base of 18 full romances stories and plot lines! Of course, it is possible to only play 1 character and still enjoy a fulfilling story. But its only by playing all six characters that you will unlock all the stories mysteries, as theyre all interlinked with one another.
Romances in Sophistry can be man-woman, man-man and woman-woman; no discrimination here. Its important to note that each character has its own unique romances story path.
All the characters and assets are fully animated using Live2D and the dialogs are displayed using comic style speech bubble for more interactivity!
The gameplay in Sophistry is story driven, always moving forward, and doesnt include any grinding or repetitive tasks. Your decisions will shape your character relationships towards the 5 main characters as well as all the other characters in game.
This is probably the most complex story ever written for a visual novel.
Who we are?
2 Cubs Studio is an international video game developer and publisher based in France.
In 2020, amidst the COVID-19 crisis Izan and Nicolas decided to create their own game company 2 Cubs Studio and Sophistry is their first title.
Darizan Prudhon was born on 1st October 1985 in Malaysia. She is primarily responsible for all the coding in Sophistry. She also writes the grand plot lines of this game. She was particularly active while working on Destiny Online
Nicolas Prudhon was born on 23rd December 1977 in South of Korea. He is now a French citizen living in France. He is primarily responsible for all the art style, animation, and the trailers of Sophistry. He also the script writer for this game. He was featured in Korea Magazine as Person of the Week in December 2001. More recently, he worked for GT Arcade on League of Angels and some other of their titles.
Why KICKSTARTER?
We started the development of "Sophistry" in September 2020, and since then, the entire production of the game has been funded by our own treasury. Fortunately, most of the work is done in-house, allowing us to save a lot of money; potentially allowing us to ensure that the game could be fully developed on our own funds.
As the development went along and people got to try our demo, it became obvious that voice over wasn't just an option for our game, but would have to be a core element of the game itself right from the start.
Voice actors (even more so quality ones) are very expensive (we have been ask up to "$21,000" by some actors for their role alone), and definitely not the kind of budget we can afford for this at this time. In addition to the voice acting, other cost are attached to this, such as more advanced character animation and lip sync.
For those reasons, we decided to turn to Kickstarter for your support in order for us to be able to deliver to you, our game "Sophistry" at the quality level that you deserve.
We have estimated that the initial goal of "20,000" would allow us to do just that for you. While the voice actors in that price range may not be the best ever, we are confident that we can hire some sufficiently competent for you to enjoy the game. That being said, for the same reason, one of the stretch goals would ensure that we can get you voice acting of really high quality, as initially intended.
This is our first project, we really hope that we'll get your support, and in return, we'll develop a game that you'll truly enjoy!
The game is expected to be ready for release by the end of this year on Windows, macOS and Linux. Followed later, by a mobile release on Android and iOS.
