@@gamingonlinux I mean. My fear is just the performance. It’s STILL in my backlog so I even played it yet. Would be my first time on deck. So I’m not really sure how different the performance is between the last and current gen version. And if the new content and changes are worth the performance trade off. I’d rather take a more smooth experience over a more stuttery one but with some… small (?) extra side quests or whatsoever. I don’t really know what the added content even contains

It's not about needing it, or even just graphical extras, this version also has new camera modes, a photo mode, new content and so on.

External launchers remain, if not the biggest, certainly one of the more annoying problems (looking at Ubisoft and EA in particular). Sadly, I don't think there's much that Valve can do about those beyond asking nicely to please stop requiring them.

@@myztklk3v they often require you to be online, they often break games (though not in this particular case, just see EA /Rockstar / Ubisoft), at the very least they put another barrier in between me and actually playing the game I bought, while offering me zero benefit.

the external launcher closes as soon as you launch the game, so I don't see a huge problem.

Valve have a lot of power here. They could make it a requirement for any game that is listed on steam to have no external launcher (or at least have a configuration option to disable it). The publishers would tow the line because not being on steam costs them too much revenue (see the return to steam of EA and Ubisoft after they each tried to go it alone with their own distribution platforms)

no fixing it since it is not actually dx12 but dx11 wraparound for dx12 to add raytracing. you want to run the game in dx11 for 99% of people except those with say a 4090.

@@SwissOliver Not really. At the Steam Deck's resolution Witcher 3's performance is more CPU bound than GPU, so FSR just degrades the visuals with little to no performance increase. You're better sticking to 800p with TAAU.

if dynamic resolution scaling is active, I think FSR 2 ignores your quality options and gives bad performance (at least on my desktop, from 100fps to my monitor refresh 165)

Apart from FSR 2.1 (which I don't use bc it's terribly blurry), is there any reason at all why I should use DX12? I mean, raytracing isn't an option anyway. So unless there's extra graphic fidelity in DX12, I'd rather stick with 11 anyway.

DX12 is horrible and unless someone is doing RT should never be used. DX11 and Vulkan are far better. Imo Vulkan is the future. Look how well Doom Eternal runs and looks

Or, to be more precise: my current settings are DX11, 1152x720, Steam Deck's built-in FSR (sharpening 2), and TAAU to suppress flickering. I can run the game with 40-50 fps on high settings (medium shadows).

You can skip the launcher after signing into it the first time by adding the launch argument “—launcher-skip” in steam before booting up the game

For a tip to skip that stupid new CDPR launcher add "--launcher-skip" to the launch options. This also works for Cyberpunk 2077.

I’m trying to mainly use the deck for games which have cross platform save so that I can play mainly on PS5 or XSX but then pick up where I left off when on the road. Hopefully more games support this feature in future.

@@gta1vrulz on the game page in your Deck's library, manage the game from it's settings (little cog wheel on the right) > Properties > in General, at the top is a empty box labeled "Launch Options". The syntax goes there. This method is the same for desktop mode and Windows as well (Right click on game in Library > Properties > General - Launch Options).

The DX12 version uses a compatibility layer to convert DX11 calls to DX12. That means on Deck you're essentially converting DX11 to DX12 to Vulkan, which adds significant overhead. It's really just better to use DX11.
