I'm actually really amazed how well it runs on that thing in normal campaign mode. Sure, sandbox mode and spamming explosives will bring it to its knees but not even desktops handle that scenario well. Thank you for this!

@@Alexis-no4yj the game isn’t very well optimized. It definitely has fun physics but the rendering load is something you’d expect from much higher fidelity environments and effects.

@Tixic Nah, it's not. It's the engine. You'll see identical performance on a lower spec system (given relative graphics settings) as you would with a 5950x + 3090. I know because I've tried on both systems. It doesn't matter what hardware you have, the engine isn't designed well enough to process the physics. Ironic considering the physics in the game is part of the engine.. hence why it's called a physics engine so.. Thanks for agreeing with me.

it's the game engine that hinders performance in this game, not the hardware, sans some graphical stuff. Most of the dramatic slowdowns are caused by the game engine itself.

It likely won't. The Ray Tracing for AMD GPUs on Linux is not finished and can hardly do anything right now.

This game is voxel-based and not polygon-based. That means that it's CPU bound. FSR (or DLSS on PC with nvidia) would have almost no benefit at all in this particular case.

I think if you lower the screen resolution a little bit to 720p, lower the rendering to 75% and activate FSR you get a fixed 30fps in high graphics

The person means the Steam Deck Overlay feature of FSR that activates by at first turning it on, setting a lower resolution and sometimes one also needs to deactivate fullscreen. The activation is also indicated at the performance overlay on number 4, I think.

They're basically saying, 'We would like an even more expensive version of this,' in terms of horsepower capabilities or whatever. You know, that's why we always love to get something out there and ship it. Because we learn a lot from that, and it helps frame our thinking for Deck 2." I don't know about a Deck 3 though, maybe they'll call it Deck: Newell or something

If you want a deck, you should get one right away or wait a bit if you don't have the money or want to wait for updates that make the device better, if you have that mindset of waiting till the next deck, you're gonna do the same with the deck 2, "why buy a deck 2 if i can wait for the deck 3 which will be a lot better?" or "why buy a deck 2 right now if i can wait for the deck 3, which will make the deck 2 cheaper"

Im excited about steamos as much as, if not more than the deck because its linux, therefore devs will develop more on linux and many, including myself (once vr works), will flip to pingu os, then mac vs win will be a real contest as theyll both be business oriented. Maybe linux will dominate all and it will be distro vs distro.

Think about when we can create smaller and smaller independent voxels, gaining more and more detail and texture. Games in this format could end up looking like something out of a AAA studio, but with real damage being done to items in the game. Not that this looks bad, in my opinion this game looks great even on lower graphics. The future of voxels is somewhat exciting. Processing power is always getting better, and the way information is processed is always being refined. I'm kind of in awe this can even run on deck.

I got my 256GB steam deck arriving next Tuesday and I will definitely be trying this game. I will probably lower render resolution to like 85%. The main game I will be playing is rocket league. Hopefully there's no input delay like on every other console except PC.
