The main problem that needs fixing in Proton is that judderiness when a game is first loaded, which I don't think is a problem under regular Wine. Still, they fixed the mouse bug that been even in Wine for two decades, so I'm sure they'll get there.

@@KayX291 IIRC, I had it with games like Prey that had been around for ages and didn't have any anti-cheat multiplayer bollocks to get in the way.

@@johnknight9150 Chances are it did not get any shaders being cached as Linux/Steam Deck users did not get a chance to play it as something was blocking them, kernel level anticheat being one of them. Apex Legends for example has not been playable for some time due to EasyAntiCheat being in the way, but Respawn enabled the Proton support for it now and people had to play the game in order to build the cache by playing the game and deal with the stutters during compilation, but as the time passes it becomes less and less problematic.

If you mean stutters then that happens because of shaders being compiled, this can be omitted when more users are playing the game and all the cache is uploaded into Fossilize database. Otherwise you can't do anything about it, it is a normal thing.
