@@GScrubb181 Oh yeah, steam link or whatever isn't bad as long as you have a good internet connection. Otherwise it'll also lag spike every once in a while. But yeah, definitely try it out if your pc is better hardware than the deck

I've been trying to play planet zoo on my steam deck but it started having lag spikes after building my first habitat. I now stream it from my desktop although it pisses me off cause being mobile and away from Internet is the point of it being portable

@@freestyler7117 The difference is those AAA games on the switch are scaled down in order to run well on that device (lower Graphics or 30fps). The steam deck runs the full and uncompromised game just like on PC and is fully customizable to get the power you need. So yeah it will take more battery power to run the AAA games at MAX than the switch does at medium or low settings but you have more options on how much power you want to use.

Well, I was using 60FPS mode as this was a performance test, for most gaming on Deck people will want to switch to 30FPS.

@@nakedmidgetmauluser7684 the problem for me however was that it froze every 2 minutes and stayed frozen for 5 minutes. It was a driver problem I think. Then other issues included incorrect textures, and no online. I had no idea how I fixed it or if an update did but it works lol.

I'm on a 1650 laptop with only 8gb of ram. I just put all graphic setting on Standard then restarted game, in my 7hrs of playtime I've been on what feels like 60 fps with rare studders .

Im guessing the performance improvement comes from shader caching.

Nice vid. How's the performance in space anomaly and densely populated star systems? Also do they allow you to use text chat on the steamdeck version?

There is no "steamdeck version", it's just the Windows version through Proton, everything is there.

I had a question about the Deck...when you launch a verified game and it pre-selects the graphics settings in some games. If you log back into that same game on a PC, did it change your desktop config file for graphics? Would you have to adjust everything back on a desktop everytime you played on your steam deck and then jumped back onto your more powerful desktop??? If anyone knows please answer.

I've played NMS on PS4, PS5 and PC and these drops happen on every platform in my experience. The game is just not very well optimised unfortunately

I'd probably limit to 30 FPS and increase some of the graphic settings slightly.

that pop in is awful. drop the fps to 30 and boost those settings so things dont pop in right in front of your face! I get the appeal to 60fps

I,ve found that many people demonstrating games on the steam deck are doing it docked and playing with a keyboard and mouse, is this the case for you? when i load no mans sky on my deck only the right track pad works out of the box (no other controls function) and i have to go in and map all the commands by hand. This is the case for many games, i guess any game that wasn't designed for use with a controller? The only 'game' that hasn't required manual mapping of the controls is Retroarch, that works flawlessly. For games that are Deck verified it would be nice if all the controls were bound.

@@gamingonlinux Just an update, I went in and did a calibration for the deck for all the buttons, and changed nothing else(it was set for controller) and everything seems to be working now. It was super frustrating, now everything seems to just work!

For No Man’s Sky, just set Steam Input to a normal gamepad.

This game runs so damn well on the Steam Deck. Really showing just how amazing the Deck is and how great of a job Hello did to make it so compatible. At 60fps it's a dream but chews through battery, and really feels great at 30 because it's consistently 30 and the game feels good at 30 in general. It's blowing my mind that I can lay on the couch and continue my session from PC and feel like the experience is just as good just on a smaller screen. This game is so great to have portable. The only issue I had was the first time you launch the game the controls don't work. The solution is to kill the game and restart it and it's been smooth sailing ever since.

What I don't get is that you can land almost anywhere in no man's sky, but when you play Star Citizen, The Landing mechanic is fucking broken. But there's a whole lot more in Star Citizen then there is in no man's sky, I would love if no man's Sky adopted the idea of Star Citizen when it comes to moving around in your ship while the ship travels in FTL. And so much more inspiration, instead no man's Sky release is really stupid releases most of the time, don't get me wrong the game is nice and stable now, but the game is an incredibly boring procedurally-generated shithole. It's never-ending worlds that are procedurally generated, but they're all basically the same world just slightly different looking biomes slightly different sky slightly different grass trees animals creatures plants, but every planet is very Sammy feeling even the aliens are boring, the alien Quest are boring, there just needs to be a lot more to look forward to when it comes to the creativity in no man's sky And I'm not talking about companions and having animals as friends or whatever, game needs to focus more on story more than anything. I would be happy if they took some inspiration from Star Citizen what is cannabis certain aspects, not the releasing of bigger Starships in the form of real life cash in order to purchase them none of that scamming shit Star Citizen is known for.
