Its a bad choice testing a newly released game as the issue could be the game itself. That said, you should cap to 30fps if its all over the place.

Capping the FPS to 30 will not stop the big dips, at all. It's also a fully Verified title, so it's a good example to show.

@@Will-zt9xz because using proton uses extra RAM on top of the minimum requirements. We dunno how much because it depends on the complexity of the game. Most games that run on proton have anywhere from 5% to 30% performance drop compared to running natively on windows.

@@Will-zt9xz yes. But steam deck is running on Linux and using proton to do realtime translation of directx code to Vulkan. Obviously there would be some overhead using processing and ram.

performance looks pretty good to my eye, capping at 30fps will eradicate screen tearing except for in the dips which are there but not in the same force as on switch or even home consoles 1.5 generations ago, i bet running this game at 3/4 or 1/2 res with FSR upscaling could honestly get it almost rock solid 30fps at medium, but no way to tell from here for sure

People still don’t realise how impressive it is to play a newly released triple A game on a handheld. All of that with the game having issues even with more powerful pc’s. The performance can only get better from here when fromsoftware start updating the game for improvement. I would assume it will run at least on par with PS4 or better

a constant 60fps already hurts my eyes. Idk how this is playable to anyone. Bloodborne was a ROUGH experience, but there was no alternative. With elden ring you have more than enough proper alternatives.

If you play with controller capped 30fps is really good, mouse and keyboard makes it harder to play in 30fps

This is REALLY impressive. 720p FSR on medium/low with the 30fps cap I would say would give you the best experience but the fact the game is playable at all is something else. I had to cancel my reservation since I wasn't sure where I'd be financially but hopefully I can get my hands on one within the next year or so depending on how reservations go.

I click elden ring and the deck launches it but instantly goes back to the menu so I click play again and does the same thing all over.
